Botany is the science or sciences of plant biology, physiology or mainly called as phytology, one of the bright branches in biology. The person who specialises in this field is generally known as botanist, plant scientist or even sometimes as phytologist. One could think why this name botany ? botany comes from an ancient Greek word botane which would mean pasture or grass, fodder which inturn has the origin from word boskein which meant to graze or to feed. The sciences of botany is not the infant but is an actually the oldest since the man the understood and started identifying the advantageous plants, cultivating them and so on.
Bachelor in Science botany is an undergraduate degree course. The total duration for bsc course is 3 years. This degree course is mostly preferred to be done after completion of higher secondary education i.e. 12th std. this course is designed to study and learn whole and soul about the plant kingdom, their evolution , its uses, its species, their classifications on various basis. Students who are interested in ecology, forestry, horticulture, etc can definitely pursue this course after their 12th std . this course even helpful for students who want to get into Indian forestry service and even other UPSC exams.
Admission for this course depends on the methods of various states and can differ accordingly state to state. Generally this admissions takes place on the basis of merit. Though the admissions in various famous or private universities takes place on the basis of respective entrance exams. This course does not have special colleges for it, as it is available with various degree colleges with science field.
One of the main concerns is fees. This concern is very important for most of the people irrespective of the courses they would like to pursue for. The fees for this course would obviously differ depending on the colleges they would like to get into. The fees in government colleges can differ in the range of rupees 10,000 to rupees 30,000 though this also differ on the basis facilities given by the various colleges and even the criteria of the state. The fees for private universities ranges between rupees 50,000 to rupees 1 lakh. Though the central government and state government has came up with various schemes and scholarships for under privileged, disabled and economically unstable. Despite of this few colleges even have quota system for minority sectors.
The syllabus of the course BSc in botany is been divide into 3 years and 6 semesters. Though in first and even in second year students do have to study other subjects with botany, they have only botany subject for all 6 papers in the last year i.e. 3rd year for 5th and 6th semester.
